What You Need To Know About Coaching

Coaching is a dynamic process

In coaching, the client comes with a desired outcome in mind. Together, we set goals and co-create the plan to reach those goals. While coaching involves exploration and insight, it is different from therapy in that the majority of the work is present and future-oriented. This process is not linear, but should always be motivating, energizing, and effective to help you move toward the transformation you seek.

Coaching is NOT therapy

While I am a licensed therapist, I am ethically bound to operate my coaching practice separate from my therapy work and therefore, do not address issues best suited for therapy in my coaching practice. Therefore, if issues arise in coaching that require the help of a therapist, I will recommend you find one in your local area or via telehealth with a therapist licensed in your state. Many individuals work with a therapist and a coach simultaneously as each supports a different area of whole-person health.

How do I know if I need coaching or therapy?

Most individuals flourish with the support of a well-trained and experienced coach. Coaching helps you move from where you are today to where you envision being in the future. While therapy is necessary to address issues interferring with daily functioning (depression, debilitating anxiety, personality disorders, abuse of any kind, significant mental-illnesses, etc.), coaching addresses regular life stressors, obstacles, and blocks that are simply holding you back from where you know you could go if you just had some support and accountability to get there.
